Job Roles for Trailer Creation

Within the project the handing out of job roles was imperative for the success of the trailer. Equalling spreading out of the work is something very important and allowed us to focus on individual aspects a lot easier.
My main job role will be as editor and trying to create a film sequence that could easily be understood and interpreted. As well as this I have a good range of software to do this, most notably Sony Vegas,  a film software that gave a good range of visual effects hopefully allowing me to put the film together without hassle.
Callum is the person who created the main storyline of the film and in turn will have the best understanding throughout. From this he will be directing and incoporating various camera angles to help produce majority of the shots for the trailer.
Tyler is the last person in our group and will play Daryl, as one of the main characters in the trailer. He will be present throughout the trailer and had a productive say also with where the camera should be and the angles used.

To help out the acting side of the project, we aim to bring in 2 external members to the group who ended up being prime actors within the trailer. This gave us further depth and allowed us to produce  a trailer using all our best attributes.

Monthly Diary 26/3/2012

Last month I focused on the re-drafting of my magazine cover and poster. Since then I have finished both of these ready for handing in giving me time to focus on my blog work.

For my magazine cover, it was merely a case of trying to make it look like more of a magazine cover, in the sense of adding attributes that indicate a film nature. With that in mind, I too my audience feedback and made the changes they thought was necessary coming out with a completed cover.

With regards to the poster, this took a lot more work and in turn required a completely new image and layout. My original version didn’t receive very good feedback and in turn required a lot of changes to fit with the genre. It was said to need a much more glum outlook than it did already, so I went about this by shooting 2 brand new images. I then decided to make them ‘Black and White’ something that adds to a moody feel and a characteristic already used within the trailer. After this had finished I spoke to my teacher and peers who all agreed the new poster was an improvement on the old.

With me therefore completing both ancillary tasks and main task I will now work on my evaluation hoping to finish that soon as possible.

Audience Feedback for Magazine Cover 1st Draft

After completing the first draft of my magazine poster, I thought it would be a good idea to gain some feedback for it. Allowing myself to gain audience feedback will in turn provide me with some points and aspects that can therefore be improved, giving myself a better chance for a higher grade.
With this in mind, I decided to present the piece to both my media teacher and 2 peers from my class.

Magazine Cover
Immediately from the outset the picture became the main focus of discussion from my peers. They liked the stern look the character had on his face, with his clothing adding the overall emotion. They said;

Callum - 'Nice main photo. Looks forceful and gives quite a moody outset from it.'
Tyler - 'Photo is bold, looks like quite a bold film'.

Photo Used

With our story holding dark and glum characteristics, I was pleased the photo gave off this appeal of a forceful and moody outlook, allowing me to know that the cover does reflect the storyline as a whole. After this I explained how the character, Daryl, in the photo was yes one of the main characters but not the main character for the story. I went on further to say that rather than give the publicity to the main persona of that film, splitting it up and producing a magazine cover with another character will provide a different outlook to the film and something that the reader would not necessarily expect hearing that there was an article on the film.

After receiving some positive feedback from my peers, I then asked my teacher to give me some too. He picked out the names of the films down the side, film's that would be talked about inside the magazine. He liked the way the names fit around the border of the character allowing a bit of text but not putting pressure on the picture.

To improve my poster and magazine cover its key that I receive some negative feedback and points that I can either add or build from. I asked my teacher for this feedback.
His first point was the text produced for the main 'Wonderland' article. He thought it was too word heavy and something unlikely to see on a magazine cover. With this in mind, he thinks it could be worth cutting this down to less words focussing on the actors name more.

Staying with the text he next went on to mention the main mast-heading 'vCity'. He mentioned that he did yes like the text, but thought it wasn't bold enough and lacked authority on the page. With this in mind, he suggested making the heading a fraction bigger and stretching it to cover a small part of the main picture. This way dominance of the name is shown and clearly indicates the name of the magazine.

After this he also mentioned it could be worth adding something to make the cover look more film a film magazine. He suggested a film reel to just shown its clearly a film based magazine.

Summary of Magazine Cover
From the audience feedback, I have declared a number of things to take into the next draft;

·        Good Assertive Picture
·        Films names down the side works well
·        Cut down the text on the main 'Wonderland' article
·        Make 'vCity' masthead larger
·        Add a film reel

Target Audience for Wonderland

To make any project successful producing a target audience to aim it is very important and something that needs to be established and recognised. By knowing exactly who you are aiming the product at allows you to work around their characteristics and what interests them.
This year, I and 2 others have been assigned to make a movie trailer and therefore need to assign a target audience to aim at in order for any success to come from it. With this in mind we have produced a Plot of the film which gives us a thorough look into the exact story line and who to target this story line act.

With this in mind, this is target audience we came to;

·         Gender = Men.
After considering the story line of the film we have decided to aim the trailer at the male gender. The trailer focuses on a male cast with only one female being present within the film. With this in mind, we feel the male population will be able to identify with the characters better and be able to relate more than perhaps women can. We have also decided to aim it at lower social classes.

Example of Target Male

·         Age = 18 – 25
After realising that the film is focused on the male population, identifying a target age is just as important. The film trailer characters are of a very young age and we therefore think a young group of people will be better at relating with them. With that in mind we have gone with the age bracket of 18-25.

The certificate of the film would be 18 due to the death and drug references and have therefore used this to provide the minimum age bracket for the target audience.

Monthly Diary 25/2/2012

Within February I focused mainly on the re-drafting of my magazine cover and poster.  By receiving feedback from both my peers and teacher allowed me to go out and make changes to both items. I started the month by posting my original draft copies of these on my blog, asking my teacher and 2 class mates to give same there feedback of them. I was fortunate enough to gain both positive and negatives comments which allowed me to amend these changes and hopefully improve their perceptions.
The updates versions of these will be up on the blog in due course to hopefully gain more feedback for.

Audience Feedback for Poster 1st Draft

After completing the first draft of my magazine poster, I thought it would be a good idea to gain some feedback for it. Allowing myself to gain audience feedback will in turn provide me with some points and aspects that can therefore be improved, giving myself a better chance for a higher grade.
With this in mind, I decided to present the piece to both my media teacher and 2 peers from my class.

Poster
After loading the poster I presented it to them via Corel draw format. Immediately it was clear they liked the writing for credits and the title saying;

Callum-‘Nice credits, looks like an actual film poster’
Nathan– ‘Title looks good with the shadowing’

I then asked them whether anything could be improved. After analysing it they both said the names were quite hard to see, with the white colour on the green bush background.

Callum –‘Names are tough to see with choice of colours.’
Nathan – ‘The white on green makes the names hard to see’
The reason I had this in the first place was to change the colour and keep it different thoughout the poster. Knowing now that it is tough to see allows me to make this change and allow the audience to see the actors names a lot clearer.

After hearing to what they both had to say about the poster, I then asked my media teacher his thoughts. He agreed the colour choice with the background could be improved, with regards to names, but also made the point about the picture.

He thought the picture wasn’t mysterious enough and just displayed a young man on a bench. Knowing how complex the story line is, he’s asked me to re-do the picture producing one that holds a puzzling outlook. With this in mind he thinks by providing a mysterious puzzling picture, the audience would be intrigued more than they would be him just sitting on the bench.

Summary of poster
From the audience feedback, I have declared a number of things to take into my next draft go;

·         The font is good for the titles and credits and will be kept.
·         The shadowing on the title will be kept.
·         The picture needs to be changed to a more puzzling one.
·         Make sure the background colours and font colours don’t clash.
